The team had had to move development from the office to employees' homes, which, according to Loftis, presented a real and different challenge. Loftis went on to describe how the development team had adapted to the health and safety requirements brought on by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Loftis added that even after that process is over, there's still debugging and polishing that needs to be done before the company can consider preparing to ship its newest game. "RTS development is funny: it takes a while to build the separate systems (AI, economy, sim, rendering, etc), and then it takes a while for them to come together," she wrote. Loftis explained that there are very specific issues when developing games like Age of Empires IV. At the same time, Loftis made it clear there still isn't any official release date. She said Microsoft is making real progress on the development.
